(MISSISSAUGA, ON) -- May 1, 2023 -- Sauvetage Bénévole Outaouais - Ottawa Volunteer Search and Rescue (SBO-OVSAR) of Ottawa, Ontario received its customized Defender 130 for winning in the Search and Rescue category sponsored by Pelican in the 'Defender Service Awards' presented by Chase on April 27th, 2023.

Inspired by the endless acts of service across the U.S. and Canada from extraordinary citizens, Land Rover launched the 'Defender Service Awards' in 2021 to celebrate U.S. and Canadian-based charitable organizations that are making a positive impact in their local community. To honour the 70+ year history of the brand, Land Rover is awarding specially outfitted new Defender 130 SUVs to five organizations to help further their charitable efforts.The winning organizations have been awarded a custom Defender SUV that will aid them in their work with ease. The Defender 130 vehicle is all new for 2023, featuring three rows of seating for up to eight people and 2,516 litres of load capacity. The Defender 130 vehicle is fully capable of assisting these organizations with transporting animals, gear or volunteers."SBO-OVSAR is extremely thankful to have been chosen as the category winner. SBO-OVSAR will put the new Defender into immediate use. It will respond to calls from police and municipal agencies to assist with search and rescue and disaster response, helping to reach hard to access locations, insert teams into the field and reach residents in need of support," said Lynn Dupuis, President of SBO-OVSAR.SBO-OVSAR has also been awarded $25,000 USD from Pelican as the Search and Rescue category sponsor. In addition, Chase as the presenting sponsor awarded each of the five finalists, per category $5,000 USD to aid with their important services they provide their communities.Lynn continued to share, "The $25,000 prize money will be devoted to SBO-OVSAR's highest priorities with a focus on improving operations in remote areas, enhancing the team's digital communications system and our ability to respond to winter rescues.
